Saturday, March 9: “More Important Than Yourselves VII”
Mark 7: 21, 22:“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.”
Every one of these evil things that proceed from a sinful heart begins with pride–the opinion that the individual is not responsible for the harm that comes to another because of his own selfish actions. When I consider another more important than myself I will not steal from them, kill anyone close to them, commit fornication or adultery with them, or slander them. Summed up, considering others more important than yourself is a basic practical expression of love. Anything less is pure foolishness.
