Saturday, May 11: “The Importance of Being Real VII”
Matthew 7: 28, 29:“When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.”
The scribes (and Pharisees) had a certain degree of authority, for they sat in the seat of Moses(Matthew 23: 2). However, it was an authority they had assumed for themselves, having “seated themselves” there. Jesus, on the other hand, says“All authority has been given to Me.” (Matthew 28: 18; John 10: 17, 18).This came from the Father, not Himself. His authority was real, and the people could tell the difference. We, too, have the same choice: We can assume authority for ourselves, or we can walk in the authority given us by Christ(Luke 10: 14).Only one of these choices makes us real.
