Saturday, September 7: “Christ Our Joy”
Psalm 43: 4, 5:“Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; and upon the lyre I will praise You, O God, my God. Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.”
Psalm 42 begins with the author’s currently unfulfilling and unfulfilled relationship with God, even though he had previously been an avid worshiper. Now, he is disturbed and in despair. Then Psalm 43 kicks in (which is actually a continuation of Psalm 42), and the mood changes! He realizes that the key to fulfillment is still at God’s altar, where he finds joy, hope, and help. And Whom do we meet at the altar to experience these things? I think we know by now …
