Thursday, August 11: “Undivided Part IV”
Judges 14: 5, 6a: “Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came as far as the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion came running toward him. The Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily, so that he tore him as one tears a young goat though he had nothing in his hand.” When God’s people need deliverance (13: 1)
He first lifts up leadership by the power of the Spirit (13: 25). These leaders become special targets of the enemy, as he sends roaring mouths and gaping jaws to belittle and destroy the would-be deliverers before they can get started. But again, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54: 17). The same Holy Spirit who elevates also strengthens to still the threat, and is even able to turn the strong curses into sweet union (14: 14). Fear not the lions roaring against you, for they are no more than a kid’s bleating in the ears of the Lord!
