Thursday, December 5: “Isaiah Speaks to the Nations: Day V”

Isaiah 2: 22: “Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; for why should he be esteemed?”

Our day of celebrity endorsers and social influencers should not be considered as a clever innovation of neo culture. God’s people in Isaiah’s time, though warned not to lean on kings or warriors or any of their trappings (i.e., Psalm 33: 16), had become rejecters of the Lord and His ways in favor of embracing the ways of man. At that time, it was called idolatry. Now, we call it humanism, and proudly so. But the Lord of hosts promises that a day of reckoning is near (v. 12) unless we repent.
