Thursday, March 7: “More Important Than Yourselves V”
Mark 6: 34: “When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.”
Jesus and the twelve desperately needed some rest, but when they arrived at what was supposed to be a secluded place, they were met by a massive crowd. His urge was certainly to get back in the boat. However, His shepherd’s heart was for the well-being of His sheep, not Himself, so He made like a shepherd and spent the rest of the day healing, teaching, and feeding them. This, too, is the example we follow when we regard others more important than ourselves.
