Tuesday, August 9: “Undivided Part II”

John 3: 26, 27: “[John’s disciples] came to John and said to him, ‘Rabbi, He Who was with you beyond the Jordan, to Whom you have testified, behold, He is baptizing and all are coming to Him.’ John answered and said, ‘A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.’”

Jesus was baptizing. John was baptizing. Great, twice as many people being baptized, right? Sadly, that’s not quite how some of John’s disciples saw it. Instead, in an attempt to maintain their place in the religious pecking order, they tried to turn John against Jesus. What a disaster that would have been; John was the Lord’s key witness for Jesus as the Christ! So He empowered John with the understanding that it’s all from God, and a wisdom that knew how to defeat the attack of jealousy.
