Tuesday, March 2: “Silent Entreaty”

Psalm 62: 1, 2: “My soul waits in silence for God only; from Him is my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold, I shall not be greatly shaken.” There is a place and a purpose for prayer. Most assuredly so. But some people are like the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel (1 Kings 18: 26-29); they seem to think prayer is their ultimate tool to awaken an unresponsive God, Who is apparently asleep on the job. This is not necessary. Those who know God as their hope (v. 5) also know that God hears our silent prayers, not just to fill out our shopping list (Matthew 6: 8), but to keep us safe in Him. No need for screaming, or shaking!
