Tuesday, March 4: “Why Lent? Part III”

Deuteronomy 6 16: “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.”

Israel tested God when they came to a place with no water and said, “Is the Lord among us, or not?” (Exodus 17: 7) This, only weeks after they had seen His mastery over both the Nile River and the Red Sea. Do we test the Lord by questioning His power or His faithfulness? Is it even important? Well, Jesus Himself quoted this verse on the Mount of Temptation, so I guess it is. This is why we need Lent.
