Tuesday, May 7: “The Importance of Being Real III”

Psalm 78: 36, 37: “But [Israel] deceived [God] with their mouth and lied to Him with their tongue. For their heart was not steadfast toward Him, nor were they faithful in His Covenant.”

Israel could put on quite the show when called upon: “All that the Lord has spoken we will do (Exodus 19: 8). Except they didn’t. Somehow the reality of God’s faithfulness, His compassion, His power, and His Covenant never got through to them; like Rachel, they carried their idols along with them in the wilderness (Genesis 31: 9, 34; Amos 5: 25, 26; Acts 7: 42, 43). Sadly, most of them were laid low in that wilderness, as an example for us (1 Corinthians 10 5b, 6a). As we speak, so may we be.
