Wednesday, March 12: “Spiritual Identity”

John 3: 6: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

The purpose of our Lenten discipline is to remember, as Jesus told the devil during His temptation, that our existence hinges on the things of the Spirit (in this case, God’s word) over and above material things such as bread. Man is both; at the Incarnation Jesus Christ became both, that the spirit side of every man could be reborn and empowered to live His true identity as a child of God.
