Wednesday, May 29: “The Holy Trinity: Three’s Company”
Matthew 12: 50: “Whoever does the will of My Father Who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
Why did Jesus include mother, brother, and sister in the list of those who could claim kinship with Him, but not Father? Because Jesus was responding to the people who had only mentioned these three (v. 47); His earthly father was already deceased. Also, Jesus was talking about a kinship which is both human and of the Spirit; a kinship made possible by the one Father (Hebrews 2: 11-13). In this realm, no Father is possible other than the first Person of the Holy Trinity (Matthew 23: 9).
