Wednesday, October 23: “Revealed Greatness”

Luke 10: 23, 24: “Turning to the disciples, [Jesus] said privately, ‘Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see, for I say to you, that many prophets and kings wished to see the things which you see, and did not see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and did not hear them.’”

The Old Testament prophets and kings did not have a complete view of God’s abundance of magnitude, because Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, was not yet in their midst. Elijah could be afraid of Queen Jezebel, and King Hezekiah could be afraid of the king of Assyria. For Christ’s disciples, however, it is a different matter. We see Jesus, crowned with glory and honor, ruling and reigning and rendering powerless him who had the power of death, setting us free from fear. (Hebrews 2: 9, 14, 15). Fear has no place in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
