Day 9: Spiritual Food in Quarantine
“Flatten the curve.”
That’s what we have been told in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. It means lessen the projected number of people who will get infected. Community quarantine is a very effective way to accomplish it.
While in seclusion, may we contemplate flattening another curve - that of inequality. Ephesians 2 says Jesus has made the two groups (Jews and Gentiles) one and has torn down the dividing wall of hostility, creating in Himself one new humanity. There is no more Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. So there should not be worthy or unworthy, privileged or underprivileged. We have been made one humanity. We have learned through a microscopic virus that what we do affects others, that if we protect them, we protect ourselves, that their health is our health, that if we do our part, it is for their good and ours. Because we are one.
May we stop considering ourselves as more favored than others. If we do, it will eventually injure us as well. It’s sad it had to take a crisis of this magnitude for us to realize this. Still, the important thing is that we have learned. So do your part. Flatten the curve.
