Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? (1 Corinthians 5:6)

Whatever we do on a constant basis, whether good or bad, positive or negative, constructive or destructive, we get better at. But it all starts with a single step. The context of Paul’s warning above is the negative effect of an evil seed. The New Testament elsewhere also warns that it only takes a small fire to burn down a whole forest. We get the picture.

So if it’s the kind of leaven that has the potential to ruin our Christian walk, or our relationship with God or our neighbor, we would do well to nip it in the bud.
