Jonah 2: 3, 4a: “For You had cast me into the deep; into the heart of the seas, and the current engulfed me, all Your breakers and billows passed over me. So I said, ‘I have been expelled from Your sight.’”
We will never have peace as long as we blame our distress on the Lord. Chapter one of Jonah’s book has already shown us that the sailors threw Jonah overboard–at his request. Did this denial bring him any peace for those three days and nights he was in the belly of the sea creature? No, it was only when he acknowledged the Lord as the God of his circumstances that he received the deliverance and salvation promised to all of mankind centuries later by angels in Bethlehem.
