Maundy Thursday, March 28: “Trust in the Lord’s Instructions”

Mark 14: 12, 13, 16: “On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed, His disciples said to [Jesus], ‘Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?’ And He sent two of His disciples and said to them, ‘Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him,’ The disciples went out and came to the city, and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.”

The whole world came to Jerusalem for the Passover. As with any event of that magnitude, reservations were required. Too bad no one in Jesus’ entourage thought to make any. But as in any case of lack with Jesus around, one simply had to follow His directions, however odd (Fill the pots with water, look in the mouth of the first fish you catch, bring those five loaves to Me, come to Me on the water … and follow the man with a water pitcher into the house) and you’ll find a miracle. Not a small, empty room (or stable, where Jesus started life in a situation eerily similar), but a large furnished, ready, miracle. We just have to learn to trust those odd directions.
