Monday, January 1: “Christmas Peace II”

Revelation 19: 11b, 12c, 13b, 16: “He Who sat on [the white horse] is called Faithful and True …. He has a Name written on Him which no one knows except Himself … His Name is called the Word of God … And on His robe and on His thigh He has a Name written, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Confused? Yeah, that’s a lot of names, in just one short passage. Actually, one late 18th Century scholar found 198 names and titles for Jesus Christ in the bible–among them, the Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9: 6). Instead of calling today the Feast of the Holy Name, perhaps it should be called the Feast of the Many Holy Names! But it all boils down to the Name the angel uttered in Bethlehem: A Savior, Christ the Lord, the One come to earth as God’s offer of peace.
