Wednesday, May 17: “Appreciate the Differences III”
Psalm 68: 18a: “You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives; You have received gifts among men.” King David really had a way with words, didn’t he? And a prophetic vein; he wrote this verse about the Ascension of Christ a thousand years before the fact. (At least St. Paul interpreted it that way.) But when Paul quoted it to the Ephesians, it came out “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, and He gave gifts to men.” (Ephesians 4: 8) Why the differences? The Psalm we read is quoted from David’s native Hebrew, while the version Paul quoted was from a Greek translation of David’s work. But the message is still the same: Christ is Risen, Christ is also Ascended!
