Philippians 3: 12: “I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which I was also laid hold of by Christ Jesus.” This term “lay hold of” is no passive, laid-back phrase. It is the same term used several times in describing the Jew’s attempts to apprehend Jesus. It denotes a great deal of intensity. Jesus actually apprehended us, for the purpose that we, in turn, could apprehend something: His image, His likeness, His calling. This is why we have Holy Week, to remind us of the seriousness of our life with God.
