“One-Way Street”

1 John 4: 8, 16: “God is love.” Twice St. John tells us here that God is love. Well and good, we all need to understand that. But sometimes it is turned around, and it is said “Love is God.” Woah, throw on the brakes! Where did you get that? Not from the Bible! God is transcendent, and transcends even love itself. Love is divine, but if it is from God (v. 7), how can it be God?
