“End the Hostility!”

Colossians 2: 14: “Having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” What did God cancel out? What was hostile to us? Many would answer, “The Law.” Look again; the Law is not mentioned anywhere in the context of this passage. The Law, the Old Testament, the entire Bible itself, is a revelation of God’s love, not a collection of decrees against us. How, then, could it be hostile to us? The Law has not been nailed to the cross.
