Luke 7: 45,46: “I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet … you gave me no kiss … you did not anoint my head with oil.” All the things Jesus mentions here were, in Jewish tradition, customary marks of respect afforded to a guest in one’s house. Remember, Simon invited Jesus (v. 36); it seems with the sole intention of disrespecting Him publically. But Jesus uses the disrespect, meant to cause offense, in a positive way; as an object lesson to teach what proper love looks like.
