“Sound Familiar?”

Mark 6: 14, 15: “And people were saying, ‘John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.’ But others were saying, ‘He is Elijah.’ And others were saying, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.” Many of us will recognize these words as exactly the same as those of the disciples when Jesus asked them whom He was (Mark 8: 27-28). But in this earlier story we find that even Herod had an idea about who Jesus was – an erroneous one, of course. All this was enacted by John the Baptist doing His job well – that of making Jesus’ coming and presence known, even in the royal palace. The rest (His correct identity) is still up to us who believe in Him.
