“Making Certain”

Acts 23: 23, 24: “And he called to him two of the centurions, and said, ‘Get two hundred soldiers ready by the third hour of the night to proceed to Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen.’ They were also to provide mounts to put Paul on and bring him safely to Felix the governor.” You’d be hard pressed to find a better example of a man taking his duty seriously than that of Claudius Lysias, who was charged with the safety of his prisoner Paul. Upon hearing of an attack from forty men, he immediately assembled a force of four hundred eighty trained soldiers and brought Paul out of harm’s way. Are we as dedicated to fulfilling our calling from God as was this unsung hero of the Bible, Claudius Lysius, who, as far as he knew, was merely serving Caesar?
