“Safety Net”

Psalm 12: 5: “’Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, now I will arise,’ says the Lord; ‘I will set him in the safety for which he longs.’ So what is this safety God promises? Is it, as some proclaim and plead for, a one-way trip to Heaven at Christ’s coming, there to rest securely while those remaining on earth groan in devastation? Perhaps not. Remember, David was safer from attacks, both physical and spiritual, in the cave than he was in the palace. Could it be that our security, our hope, lies in the fact that wherever we find ourselves, God is surely there? That seems to be the testimony of Scripture, and remember – the words of the Lord are pure words (v. 6).
