“Proud Exiles”
Isaiah 5: 13, 15b, 16a, 24b: “Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge … The eyes of the proud also will be abased. But the Lord of hosts will be exalted in judgment … for they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.” Isaiah foresees a time when God’s people are so proud that they reject His law and His word, deeming them insufficient for their ‘modern times.’ (Sound familiar?) When He brings them into exile, it is not because he hates them, but because He loves them, and knows that in order for them to be restored as His people, He must break their pride.
