“Watch Your Tenses!”

Luke 10: 18: “And Jesus said to them, ‘I was watching satan fall from heaven like lightning.” Verb tense can be a trial for every English student, but even a grade schooler can tell you that “was watching” is past tense, something that happened before. Back then satan, the accuser of the brethren, used to accuse you before God right to His face. But that was then. Past tense. Now his accusations originate from a place much further away, and are filtered through the blood of Christ. Don’t you love English? Maybe, maybe not. But don’t you love Jesus?
