“Idols, Idols, Everywhere”

Psalm 135: 15-18: “The idols of the nations are but silver and gold, the work of man’s hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; they have ears, but they do not hear; nor is there any breath at all in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, yes, everyone who trusts in them.” We have a lot of idols today: from Hollywood to Bollywood to Pinoywood and beyond. They are not called idols as a whim; the show business industry, their minions in the press, and the very titles of their programs exalt them above God and mere mortals. Yet, as the Lord says here, they are hollow idols whose words are empty, whose values are slanted, and whose attraction is deceptive. If we follow them we become them. Rather, let us bless the Lord, the true God of all!
