“St. Paul was no James Bond”

Acts 9: 26: “And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he was trying to associate with the disciples; and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.” Really? If you were an enemy of the Church, and wanted to slip into their number someone to spy on them (which actually happened from time to time), wouldn’t you send in someone a little more low-profile? And with Saul’s track record, the Church in Jerusalem was the last place he’d go, unless he’d had a real transformation. We must be wise as serpents, harmless as doves, but smarter than this!
