“Forbidden Fruit”

2 Samuel 11: 4: “And David sent messengers and took her, and when she came to him, he lay with her; and when she had purified herself from her uncleanness, she returned to her house.” Here’s a great example of what happens when we don’t practice self-denial. Already the possessor of at least six fine, loyal, faithful wives (1 Chronicles 3: 1-4), David decides to have a little recreation with the only wife of one of his fine, loyal, faithful mighty men (2 Samuel 23: 29), with results he, in the heat of the moment, failed to consider. Self-indulgence feels good – at the time – but there are always consequences that aren’t pleasurable at all!
