Day 85: Spiritual Food in Quarantine

“Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” (Mt 15:27)

A Canaanite woman begged Jesus to heal her daughter who was demon-possessed. He told her it wasn’t good to throw the children’s bread to the dogs. He meant He was primarily sent to the lost sheep of Israel, not the Gentiles. He saw great faith in her response that she only needed crumbs for her and her daughter to live.

We should be challenged by the faith of the Canaanite woman, an outsider who may not have half the blessing we receive as members of God’s household. She realized a small portion of God’s grace is more than enough for her to face challenges and live. It’s not wrong to make our requests known to God, but we should also realize He has already granted us everything pertaining to life and godliness. We have a lot more than crumbs. We should not just be content; we should also understand that we have no excuse. Let us be thankful and bear fruit in keeping with God’s favor.
