1Thessalonians 5: 10: “[Christ] died for us, that whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him.” Last Saturday we talked about the metaphor of sleep, and how biblical writers use it to describe the state of the departed. Here, after using the same term to refer to those who are living irresponsible lives, unaware and unresponsive to the things of God, St. Paul again returns to the imagery, and drives home the most important point of all: Whatever the condition, the deceased believer is with the Lord. And God will wake him up!
