“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.” (John 6:68)

Many of Jesus’ disciples stopped following Him when He taught something unacceptable to them. I’m thinking they didn’t stop having a form of godliness. They may have just joined another group, believing they’re still walking with God. Which means we can be in a church and yet not be true believers. Like Judas. Those who left also turned out to be unbelievers. They were deceived.

When asked if he and the other apostles were also leaving, Peter said they had nowhere to go because only Jesus had the words of eternal life. Those words are what we walk away from, not people or institutions we think are wrong, when we stop trusting God and start leaning on our own understanding. Let us beseech Him to hear us when we pray, “From all evil and wickedness, from sin, from the crafts and assaults of the devil, and from everlasting damnation, good Lord, deliver us.”
