Easter Wednesday, April 3: “Victory over Pride”

Psalm 115: 1: “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.”

Pride goes before destruction (Proverbs 16: 18). History, both secular and holy, stands as an undisputable witness of this. The human spirit is prone to pride, we see it in Adam’s desire to be equal with God; and when we can take no pride in ourselves, we transfer our pride onto those we recognize, exalt, and label as heroes. Therein trouble lurks. The antidote for pride is the resurrection. It is when we realize that all lovingkindness, all truth, come not from us, and we have no monopoly on either, that boasting is excluded, and we proclaim, “All glory be to You, Lord Jesus Christ,” that we receive our victory over pride, knowing our resurrection can come from God alone.
