March 22, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

"To sit on My right or on My left is not Mine to give; but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." (Mark 10:40)

James and John ask that they be seated on either side of Jesus in His kingdom. They want to be greater than others.

Two things Jesus says about it. First, that it is not up to Him to decide who gets it, but it is for those for whom it's been prepared. Second, that the way to attain it is to be the servant of all because even He, the King of kings and Lord of lords, did not come to be served but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. Which is what greatness means in the kingdom of God.
