May 7, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
All authority has been given to Jesus in heaven and on earth. He is even now King of kings and Lord of lords. While it’s easy to find fault in His administration, the truth is that He has started making all things new at the inauguration of His kingdom on earth. And all of creation is on a trajectory toward full restoration, especially man.
Instead of criticizing, it would be wiser to declare our fealty and submit to our Lord even if others who are in authority under Him don’t - yet. A huge part of that is praying for such men, which Saint Paul says is crucial to peace. Correcting them is Jesus’ responsibility. He is also their Master and to Him they stand or fall. And stand they will because He is more than able to make them stand. Our part is to hold them up in prayer. That’s the more productive thing to do.
