October 17, 2021: Daily Dose of Discernment

“Grant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory.” (Mark 10:37)

God’s glory is always to have mercy. I understand that the crucifixion of Jesus is categorized as a sorrowful mystery in the rosary, but it really is something glorious in that it is the ultimate demonstration of the mercy of God. So actually, to sit at Jesus right and left in His glory is to participate in the giving of His life.

We live in a world of one-upmanship. This is probably why James and John asked for what they thought were the choicest seats. But that’s not the way it is in God’s kingdom. In it, he who wishes to be great shall be the servant, and he who wishes to be first shall be slave of all. Because even Jesus did not come to be served but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. Let us walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls us into this kind of glory.
