Saturday, August 20: “This Is Only a Test: Part VI”

John 6: 51: “I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.’”

The Living Bread, the Bread of Heaven, is the Body of the Lord Jesus Christ. This statement was a major test; not just for the food-seekers, but for those who believed in Him. Many failed (v. 66). But this is also a test for you and I, for the Body of Christ is a double reality: It is the literal Body of the living Christ, and it is also His Church. (1 Corinthians 12: 27; Ephesians 1: 22, 23; Colossians 1: 18) As such, we His Body are for the life of the world. We bring His way to the wayward, His truth to the truthless, and His life to the lifeless. This is a sacrament as much as the sacrament of the Eucharist, and like all sacraments, it can’t be streamed. You have to be there to give it, and you have to be there to receive it. When we leave the sala for the sanctuary–test successful!
