Saturday, August 27: “Desires Granted?”

Acts 11: 18: “When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, ‘Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life.”

Once the brethren in Jerusalem finally got over the fact that God had just left the neat tidy box they had put Him in, they realized something: God had granted to the Gentiles, and everyone else, the privilege to repent–to change. For lots of people, this is not good news. They’d like to be granted wealth, or fame, or political power. If possible, all three–but not change. Most people change because they have to, not because they want to. But the start of life in the Kingdom is change. It’s not what we want to hear, but it’s the challenging message that eventually brings about godly comfort.
