Sunday, April 21: “Earnestly Seeking God”

Psalm 63: 1: “O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; my soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”

David, the anointed king, was in the wilderness hiding from Saul, the fallen king (1 Samuel 23: 14). In this situation you would expect him to seek justice, favor from man, or, more likely, good old H2O. But he knew what, or rather Who, he really needed. He needed God. It was God he was thirsty for; God he longed for. This proper understanding of what is really important was why David was on the way to the throne, and Saul was on the way out. For Whom do you thirst?
