Thursday, August 25: “Return of the Comfort Masters”
Job 8: 4: “If your sons sinned against [God], then He delivered them into the power of their transgression.”
So your friend has lost every one of his ten children, all his possessions, and his health. In the name of comfort, you tell him that God killed them because they sinned. (Remember, Job had been praying and offering sacrifices for them just in case that was happening, Job 1: 5). Nice work, Bildad! Seriously, if you’re going to speak for God in the name of comfort, you’d better make sure your comforting words actually are a) God’s words, and b) comforting.
