Thursday, January 18: “Growing Together in Love V”

Genesis 11: 6, 7: “The Lord said, ‘Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they propose to do will be impossible for them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.’”

How was the Lord, existing from eternity as Trinity, going to respond to those in Shinar, who had ignored God’s command to scatter throughout the earth (Genesis 9: 1) and chose instead to settle in the plain and challenge God’s dominion? He attacked their vulnerable point–their speech–to quell their rebellion and scatter them abroad. Conversely, when God’s people today work together to edify Christ’s Body in love, He gives us one heart and one Spirit in the unity of faith, and a temple of love is erected rather than a tower of pride.
