Tuesday, January 16: “Growing Together in Love III”

Hebrews 5: 12, 14:For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. Solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

This epistle was not written to an individual; notice the consistent use of plurals? Thus, it is a group (the Church) that should be teachers, but instead needs to return to its days as students of the oracles of God, and is consequently lacking in maturity and unable to discern between right and wrong. But this state need not be permanent; the elementary principle of love for God and neighbor will rejuvenate Christian growth. True then, true now.
