Wednesday, February 10: “Bringer of Refreshment”

2 Timothy 1: 16, 17: The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chains; but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me, and found me.” Onesiphorus was one who believed in lifting the condition of others, even at the risk of endangering his own standing. Those who visited prisoners unrelated to them were eyed with suspicion by the Roman authorities, and marked as fellow subversives. This man didn’t care—he eagerly looked for a chance to bless the man who had blessed him and so many others. As St. Paul says, mercy awaits such believers.
