Wednesday, January 3: “Christmas Peace IV”

John 6: 15; 18-20: “So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone … The sea began to be stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. Then, when [the disciples] had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were frightened. But He said to them, ‘It is I; do not be afraid.’”

The people wanted to make Jesus king by contentious force; the Prince of Peace would have none of it. When the elements themselves tried to wage war against the disciples, Jesus came to them and reminded the wind and waves of Who He was. Our Good Shepherd knows how to lead His people into paths of righteousness and security, and those paths lead to peace on earth, goodwill to men.
