February 28, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? (1 Corinthians 6:7)

The world tells us to take care of number one, because learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all. By strict definition, love is to will and pursue the good of another with no strings attached and to our own hurt. So, to love oneself is an oxymoron.

This is not so among God’s children. We are partakers of His divine nature of love and so should regard others as more important than ourselves and their interests than ours. To answer Paul’s rhetorical questions, yes we would rather be wronged and deny ourselves of what is due to us than fight our brother over it. That’s what Jesus says is the cost of following Him. Besides, it’s not worth losing our relationship over our rights.
