February 29, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

When evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” (Mark 4:35)

The story of Jesus and the disciples in the boat battered by waves is very familiar. Most of them, being fishermen, knew the sea of Galilee, and that storms are not unexpected there. Jesus had made a statement that they are to cross over to the other side. He said it when it was already getting dark, which is obviously intentional. The disciples were aware of the challenges on the way.

Jesus’ word is God’s word. And it doesn’t return to Him without accomplishing its purpose. If He says He and the disciples then, or He and us His disciples today, are going over to the other side, whether of a storm-prone lake or of a difficult situation in life, we can be assured that His promise will be fulfilled, and that He will be with us all the way. Let us not forget that that’s just who He is and have our faith built up.
