“Not for Sale”

Acts 8: 20: “But Peter said to him, ‘May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could purchase the gift of God with money!’” We might not be as brazen as Simon the sorcerer, but when we give offering or alms with the sole purpose of obtaining favor with God, are we not operating in his spirit? Peter called it wickedness, bitterness, and bondage. Wow, strong words for a guy trying to give you money! But perhaps Peter simply had his priorities straight.
