“Practical Application”
Nehemiah 4: 8-9: “All of them conspired to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause a disturbance in it. But we prayed to our God, and because of them we set up a guard against them day and night.” So if they prayed, why did they set up a guard? Didn’t they have faith in their prayers? This is what we think sometimes when we misunderstand prayer. We don’t pray to tell God what to do; we pray to ask God what we should do. Probably in the midst of their prayers, the Lord said, “Set a guard.” They did, and the rest is history.
